Different types of caches
Standard cache:
- The cache is hidden at the published coordinates.
Multi-cache:
- The cache consists of several hidden caches, of which
the coordinates are from the other caches or by solving puzzles, etc.
Offset cache:
- The coordinates of the cache are calculated from the published
coordinates and information obtained at (or near) that spot.
Puzzle cache:
- The cache is found by solving puzzles and making calculations
using information found on different spots, often a multi-cache.
Hitchhiker cache:
- Usually hidden inside another cache; when found it is taken and
hidden in some other cache.
Moving cache:
- The cache has no fixed location.
Event cache:
- Often not an actual cache, but a meeting spot for geocachers who
want to meet on a certain date.

Virtual cache:
- A virtual cache could be to answer a question about a location,
an interesting spot, a task, etc. The reward for these caches is
the location itself and sharing information about your visit.

Webcam cache:
- A web camera pointed at the published coordinates. Place
yourself in front of the camera and have someone else take a
picture of you.
The Geocaching www-site only distiguishes between standard,
multi, virtual, event, webcam and other/unknown caches
(see
www-site).
The offset, puzzle, hitchhiker and moving cache categories were added
by me to be able to make a finer distinction. In this way, a more
precise indication can be given of what to expect from the cache.

GPS receiver
I use a Silva
Multi-Navigator. Besides a GPS receiver, it contains an electronic
compass and a barometer/altitude indicator. It comes with a neoprene pouch,
which is very convenient to keep the device dry and clean.
